That’s not to say the site doesn’t offer a wide variety of fabrics and textiles, but the overwhelming number of options can make it difficult for anyone starting their brand to know where to begin. This is often why people start looking for other options.
Option 2:
The next option most people consider is third-party sourcing platforms like Sourcenow, Global Textile Source, Deep Wear, Cotton Incorporated to name a few These platforms provide an extensive network of resources and options for those testing the waters of production. While these platforms can be helpful, how many of them are actually based in the country where the production takes place? Moreover, because most of these platforms are third parties, the prices you receive might not be the most competitive.
Option 3:
Finally, there is the third tier, which involves working directly with factories. The challenge with factories in China is that communication can often be difficult. In 2023, there are still more than 13,000 manufacturing businesses in China. While this number hasn’t increased much over the last decade, finding the right factory can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Your best chance of finding a reliable factory is by attending garment or textile shows, either in China or in your own country. If you’re specifically looking to manufacture in China, your best option is to attend the fashion shows there. These shows usually take place in the fall and spring as brands prepare for the upcoming seasons. Two of the largest shows in Shanghai are Intertextile and CHIC Fair, which feature thousands of manufacturers and textile producers and are among the biggest in Asia. The only downside is that you’ll need to travel to China and spend a few days exploring the shows to find the perfect manufacturer.
